WELCOME

Occupational therapy is the only profession that helps you, throughout your life, to do the things you want and need to do, through the therapeutic use of daily activities. Marli Smit Occupational Therapists, as OT practitioners, enable you, as a baby or child, to live life to the full, by helping you promote health, and prevent — or live independently with — injury, illness, or disability.

Optimize your
independence,
live your potential:

BABIES & CHILDREN

Let’s further explain OT by using our colleagues in physiotherapy as reference point. A physiotherapist generally helps you move your body and its parts, after sustaining an injury or other physical setback/impairment. Physiotherapists generally treat the actual injury or physical setback/impairment itself, to help you regain movement and reduce the pain.

We, as occupational therapists, help you improve your physical independence in your home, work and school environments. We want to see you perform, function and participate to your full capacity, whether you are a newborn baby or school-starting child. In other words, an OT helps you live, work and play, with your injury or physical impairment.

CHILDREN

We help your

  • babies & preschool children achieve their developmental milestones, and
  • children function better in school, etcetera.

As OTs, we educate and involve you, as parents, schools, carers and others, to facilitate the normal development and learning of your babies & children. Rehabilitation is facilitated after injuries, or e.g. after neurological incidents, helping our younger clients regain function and live to their potential.

Special interest areas, regarding children, include Sensory Integration (SI), MAES Therapy, Neuro-Developmental Therapy, Early Intervention and Autism (scroll down, to OUR AREAS OF SPECIAL INTEREST, for more information).
